Belgotex Elite Club Challenge 2020 Official Cancellation Statement
After much deliberation Belgotex together with the tournament organisers of the Elite Club Challenge (BECC), have reached an agreement to cancel the 2020 edition of the event due to the current CoVid-19 pandemic.
The plan for this year was to host both a southern qualifying event at WPCC in Cape Town and the second edition of the northern qualifiers in Johannesburg, with both events acting as pre-cursors to the finals scheduled for 9 th to 11 th July at Riverside Sports Club in Durban North.
Unfortunately the CoVid-19 pandemic and consequent state of disaster lockdown (plus current uncertainty of sport and hockey activity post the end of lockdown) has meant that neither the southern nor northern qualifiers could be held during 2020, resulting in these two events being cancelled.
We were considering the possibility of adding a qualifying event into the finals weekend as a further option for teams to qualify for future editions of the BECC. However, after further consultation with the tournament planning team, we have since taken a decision to also cancel the 2020 finals scheduled for July.
Once we have clarity on acceptable best practice within global sporting circles, we will circulate our plans for the 2021 edition of this prestigious event. We thank you for your ongoing support for this event and look forward to eventually seeing you all back on the turf.
